Our Philosophy

At YECCA, we value the importance of learning through play, therefore we aspire to provide an enriched play-based learning environment that is inclusive and nurturing. We view children as capable and competent individuals; we respect their rights and opinions and we highly value the importance of social and emotional wellbeing and building resilience.

Through our program, children are encouraged to explore, make choices, take risks, engage in messy play and have fun. They are also encouraged to be curious, imaginative, creative and independent. We acknowledge the importance of positive interactions and role modelling and aim for children to feel comfortable and secure. Our unique outdoor space is used to develop many skills and children are encouraged to care for the environment. It is also a space that is used to promote a sense of calm within the natural surroundings.

Our experienced and committed Educators offer stability and continuity for children and their families. We believe in ongoing professional learning, sharing of ideas, working together and positive communication. We develop our play-based curriculum using the children’s interests and strengths, intentional teaching and community engagement, guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Standards and National Quality Framework.

We acknowledge that families know their children best and we aim for positive and equitable relationships and open communication, to work in the best interests of the children. As a community-based Centre, we value our volunteer parent committee, we value the partnerships we have with our local schools and services and we strive to offer incursions and excursions. We acknowledge the Ngunnawal land and its people, in which we come to gather on each day and we celebrate the various cultures and diversity of our families and community.
